W.R. Case & Sons has made pocket knives in Bradford, Pennsylvania since 1905, and the Case family was fashioning knives in upstate New York from 1889. Zippo, which is also based in Bradford, has owned the company since 1993. The current plant, Case’s third in Bradford, was built in 1975 and renovated for about $10 million in 2014–15. Members of the Case Collectors Club can book a tour of it.
The mark comes from Case’s own wording. Almost every knife in the catalogue carries the same sentence, “Made in Bradford, PA, USA from domestic and imported materials.” That places the making in Bradford and says plainly that some materials come from abroad, without saying which. Case’s own history page names Brazilian cattle bone among its handle materials. A qualified claim like that is the second mark, so the whole knife range sits there.
The traditional patterns are the ones listed below: trappers, stockmen and Sod Busters in yellow synthetic, bone and stag. The same shop also sells shirts, hats, sheaths and some sharpeners, and most of those carry no origin line at all. They are not what this record is about.
