Smithey polishes its castings to a satin finish rather than leaving them pebbled, which is the reason the brand exists and the reason the pans cost what they do. The work happens on the old naval base in North Charleston, and South Carolina’s own economic-development office puts addresses and dollar figures behind that.

One limit is worth naming. Smithey’s claim is that it designs and crafts its cookware in the USA; it is not a claim about a specific foundry, and the site draws no line between the cast iron and the carbon steel ranges. Cast iron cookware is routinely poured at a contract foundry and finished elsewhere — that is what Stargazer does, openly — so “crafted in the USA” leaves the pour location unstated. Nothing suggests it is anywhere but the United States, and the state release calls the whole range American-made, which is why this sits at the top mark. A per-line breakdown would still be the thing that closes the last gap, and it is flagged for the next check.
