Sandlot Goods makes baseball-style caps in Kansas City, Missouri, along with a smaller line of wallets and accessories. The company says its hats are designed, cut and stitched at its own Kansas City facility. The Alliance for American Manufacturing and ABC News both describe a working Kansas City factory with about 45 employees doing that work.
It is a split line, and an awkwardly documented one. Sandlot’s own FAQ says its apparel “is crafted by a trusted third party” and only embellished in Kansas City, without saying where that third party is — while the same paragraph opens by claiming everything on the site is made in Kansas City. The Alliance for American Manufacturing, reporting on the company, says the T-shirts are manufactured overseas. Printed apparel sold under the Sandlot name and made abroad is what puts the brand’s mark at the floor.
The hats and wallets are the other side of it, and they are nearly the whole catalogue: 361 of some 395 listings are hats, cut, sewn and decorated at the company’s own Kansas City facility. They sit at the second mark rather than the first because the company says only that “a lot of” its cloth comes from a Missouri mill, so the rest of the material is unaccounted for. The tell on a listing is the pair of lines “Made in the USA / Cut and Sewn in Kansas City, MO”, which the two printed tees do not carry.
