Olderbrother is a clothing label founded in 2014 by Max Kingery and Bobby Bonaparte, known for garments coloured with plant, clay and mineral dyes. It began in Portland, and press coverage since 2021 places it in Los Angeles, although the site still gives a Portland mailing address. Its product pages say nearly every garment is sewn in California, and most say it is dyed there too.
Cool Hunting reported on the founders’ own Los Angeles dye house in 2015, which supports the California dyeing and making. What the record cannot credit as domestic is the cloth: nearly everything is made from organic cotton, denim or hemp woven in Japan. So the record sits at the second mark: dyed and sewn in California from imported fabric.

“Bonaparte and Kingery dye the fabric themselves, tinkering with organic and sustainable materials in a new dye house that they recently opened in Los Angeles.”
