Nu Swim

Nu Swim is a swimwear and clothing label that Gina Esposito started in California in 2015 and now runs from Brooklyn, where it also has a shop. It says its swimsuits, cotton basics and knitwear are cut and sewn at a single family-owned factory in New York City, and almost every product page states this for the individual item.

Independent coverage from the brand’s first years confirms that it has made its clothes in the US from the start, in California at the time, but nothing independent yet names the New York factory.

It is a split line, if a narrow one. The Zoom leather sandal is manufactured in Italy and sold under the Nu Swim name, which puts the brand’s mark at the floor; everything else in a catalogue of about 125 pieces is carried below with its own mark and its own quoted listing.

The marks on those pieces differ, and the product page says why. The swim fabric comes from northern Italy, so the swimsuits are domestic sewing of imported cloth. Most of the organic cotton line is domestic from fibre to seam — grown in Texas, milled in Asheville, cut and sewn in New York City — though the Long Sleeve and the Camisole use Egyptian-grown cotton. The “Fabric Origin” line at the foot of each listing settles it.
