Matt McPherson founded Mathews Archery in 1992 around his single-cam Solocam design. The company is still based in Sparta, Wisconsin, at 919 River Road. Mathews says it keeps “every aspect of the build in-house”. Its current job listings in Sparta are for final bow assembly and CNC machining, and a dealer who toured the plant in 2012 described risers being machined, limbs made and bows assembled there.
Mathews doesn’t print a country-of-origin line on its bows. It says the build is in-house and it has one address, in Sparta. It also doesn’t say where the strings, cams hardware, grips or other bought-in parts come from. The record sits at the second mark: built in Wisconsin, with some inputs of unstated origin.
You can’t buy a Mathews bow online. The FAQ says bows are sold through authorised retailers, and the bow pages show an MSRP and a “Find a retailer” button. Apparel and some accessories are sold direct from mathewsinc.com. Most of those accessories give no country of origin and aren’t covered here.
