Lodge Cast Iron

Lodge has poured iron in South Pittsburg, Tennessee since 1896 and still operates two foundries there. The seasoned cast iron and seasoned carbon steel that the brand is known for — the skillets, griddles, dutch ovens and grill pans — are made in that town, and the 2021 expansion put $56m and 239 jobs behind that fact rather than behind a slogan.

The reason Lodge is the first record on this site to carry product-level exceptions is the enamel. Lodge sells two enameled ranges and is straightforward about the difference. USA Enamel is poured in the same South Pittsburg foundry as the seasoned cast iron and finished a few yards away in an enameling plant Lodge built specifically so that colourful enamel could be made domestically at all. Essential Enamel is imported, and Lodge says so in plain words on its own site.

That candour is what keeps the brand at the top mark. A company that names its imported line is easier to trust than one that says nothing; the risk to a buyer is not that Lodge is hiding something, it is that “Lodge” and “made in Tennessee” are not the same sentence at the shelf. So both enamel lines have their own records here, and the marks on those records are the ones to read before buying an enameled dutch oven.

One further caveat worth stating: even USA Enamel is not literally all-domestic. Lodge’s own product page says “Proudly made in the USA with imported hardware,” and the same page elsewhere specifies imported stainless steel accents. That is why the USA Enamel record sits one mark below the bare cast iron rather than beside it.
