Libbey traces itself to the New England Glass Company, founded in East Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1818. Edward Drummond Libbey moved the business to Toledo, Ohio in 1888, and Toledo has been its home ever since. It sells glassware to restaurants and bars and a consumer range through its own shop and ordinary retailers.
It is a split line. Libbey also makes glass in Mexico, and its shop says where each piece is made in a “Country of Origin” note at the foot of the product page. The glass bakeware reads Mexico. Much of the stemware and tumbler range reads United States, and those are the pieces listed below, each with its own page quoted. The Libbey name on the box does not settle the question. The origin note does.
Toledo is the one US glass plant left. The Shreveport factory closed at the end of 2020 and is being torn down. The Toledo plant came through a five-month strike in 2025 and 2026, and its roughly 650 union workers went back to work in February 2026 under new contracts.
