Leather Works Minnesota was started in 1999 by Kent and Lee Begnaud in a garage outside St. Paul. It makes wallets, belts, key fobs and travel pieces by hand, and in 2025 moved from its Lowertown workshop to a former corner grocery on Oakdale Avenue on St. Paul’s West Side, which now holds the shop, a retail counter and a coffee bar.
This record sits at the second mark. Two local news reports confirm the St. Paul workshop, and the brand names its leather sources: S.B. Foot in Red Wing, Tennessee Tanning, and Weaver Leather. Weaver is a distributor rather than a tannery, and it sells hides from American, Italian and other tanneries. The site does not say which of those the shop buys, and most wallet and belt listings do not name a leather source at all. The pieces made from S.B. Foot leather can be traced to a Minnesota tannery, and their product records say so. The shop also resells other makers’ goods, which are not covered here.
