Korchmar was founded in Cincinnati in 1917 by Max Korchmar, a Ukrainian immigrant, and made military field bags, attaché cases and briefcases there for most of the century. The family opened a factory in the Dominican Republic in the 1980s, closed the Cincinnati plant at the end of the 1990s and moved its US operations to Florida. It is now run by the third and fourth generations from Naples.

The honest summary is that most Korchmar bags are not made in America. The company says it makes its goods in its own factories in the United States and the Dominican Republic, and the family told Naples Illustrated in 2024 that only “a few select products” are made in Naples. The core range, such as the Garfield briefcase, says “handcrafted in our own factory” without naming the country. The Assembled in USA line is cut and sewn in Naples from domestic and imported materials.

The exception is the American Foundry collection, which is listed below. Korchmar says it is made in Naples from 100 percent US-origin materials, with Horween leather from Chicago, lining woven in North Carolina, and zippers and hardware sourced to the Berry Amendment standard. This is the rare bag maker that has documented a fully domestic supply chain, and those pieces are clearly labelled “Made in USA” in the product name. Look for that label. Nothing else in the range carries it.
