J.R. Liggett’s has made solid shampoo bars on a farm in Cornish, New Hampshire since 1982, in what the company describes as a renovated cow barn on the banks of the Connecticut River. The recipe came out of a nineteenth-century cookbook.

The making is not in doubt and it is not vague — the brand names a building, not a country, which is the harder thing to say and the easier thing to check. What the record cannot yet do is stand the claim up on a source outside the company, because the two published features about the business were both unreachable on the day of verification. The mark reflects the evidence in hand and the note says what is missing.

Second mark, not first, for the ordinary reason: a bar is a formulation, and nothing published accounts for where the oils in it were grown.
