J.K. Adams has made wooden kitchenware in Dorset, Vermont, since the last day of 1944. Josiah “Joe” K. Adams and his wife Betty started it as a small woodworking business. It still runs from the same town on Route 30, with the factory and the company’s own kitchen store on one site. It makes cutting and carving boards, end-grain butcher blocks, rolling pins, serving boards, lazy Susans and slate servers. It also claims to have invented the modular wine rack. In September 2025 the company was bought by John Boos & Co., the Illinois butcher-block maker. Vermont Business Magazine reported at the time that Boos would keep the Dorset headquarters and staff.
The boards are the reason to buy, and their product pages say where they come from in so many words: “Made in USA,” “USA Made,” “USA Manufactured.” The about page adds that the hardwood is harvested in North America and handled by local loggers and sawmills on its way to the Dorset plant. The listed boards and rolling pin are carried at the first mark on that basis.
It is a split line, and J.K. Adams’s own labels are what make it one. The wooden pot racks are marked “Assembled in USA.” and “Imported Hardware.” in the specifications, and the description now says “Imported hardware included.” in plain prose as well. These are small parts of a large catalogue, but they sit under the same name as the boards, so the brand’s mark is the floor and the Dorset-made boards carry their own marks below.
Two other things on that shop are not a split line and should not be read as one. The hardwood is harvested in North America, so it is not an imported material. And the knives, bakeware and Vermont pantry goods the store stocks are other companies’ — Nordic Ware, Opinel, Wüsthof — which is disclosed as resale rather than counted against J.K. Adams.
Read the Specifications list on the product page. Wood and slate made in Dorset say so, and the pot racks say what they are.
