HF Coors has made restaurant-grade ceramic dinnerware since 1925. It began in Inglewood, California, and in 2003 Dirck Schou and David Sounart of Catalina China bought the company and moved it, equipment and all, to Tucson. The factory, offices and a factory shop share one building on Cherrybell Stravenue.
The company mixes its own clay and glazes, makes its own molds, and forms, decorates and kiln-fires every piece in Tucson. It says more than 95 percent of its raw materials and supplies come from US vendors. A 2022 tour by a local food publication found about 60 people working in a 30,000-square- foot plant, with a kiln that runs around the clock four days a week.
Its best-known line is Mimbreño, the pattern Mary Colter adapted from Mimbres pottery for the Santa Fe Railway’s Super Chief dining cars in the 1930s. HF Coors makes it as the pattern’s authorized reproduction. The rest of the range is plain and decorated plates, bowls and mugs that restaurants buy by the case and home cooks buy by the set. Every product page read carries a “Made in Tucson, Arizona, USA” field.

A Tucson food publication toured the factory and reported that the clay and glazes are mixed there
““We mix all our clays and all our glazes. Everything is made here in Tucson using American-made ingredients so we can control that,” said Goodman at the start of our tour.”
