Gustin is a San Francisco menswear company that sells jeans, shirts, knits, jackets and chinos through crowdfunded campaigns. A style is made only once enough customers have pre-ordered it. The brand says it sews 95% of what it sells with American factory partners, most of it in California, from fabric it buys around the world.

In 2014 the city’s newspaper found Gustin jeans in production at a downtown San Francisco denim factory, which matches the brand’s claim, though that report is now several years old.

It is a split line, and Gustin counts it out for you: 90% of the range is made in California, 5% in Canada, and the sneakers are made in Italy. The Canadian and Italian goods carry the Gustin name like the rest, so the brand’s mark here is the floor, and the California-sewn jeans and chinos below carry their own marks with the origin line from each campaign page quoted.

The cloth is a separate question from the sewing and it moves the same way. Much of it is Japanese, with Italian and other imported fabric alongside some American denim and North Carolina twill, which is why the American-sewn garments sit at the second mark rather than the first. Look for “Cut and sewn in California” on the campaign page.
