Grado Labs is a family company in Brooklyn that has made phono cartridges since 1953 and headphones since the early 1990s. It still works from the building the Grado family bought in 1918, and says every wired headphone and every cartridge is assembled there.
Independent reporting from inside the building describes plastic parts moulded in the basement and assembly done by hand, and in 2017 it traced the wood and driver suppliers to New York State. The company’s own claim is limited to assembly, and it gives no origin for its Bluetooth and in-ear models. This record sits at the second mark for the wired headphones and cartridges. The wireless line is outside it.
