Grace USA has made gunsmithing screwdrivers since 1941, when Edward C. Grace, a gunsmith, founded Grace Metal Products in Elk Rapids on Michigan’s Grand Traverse Bay to build a screwdriver that properly fit a gun screw. The company passed to his brother-in-law John Morrison in 1973, and Morrison’s son Dan has run it since 1982, now from a family workshop in Williamsburg, Michigan.
It is a small shop, but not a new one. It has been working for 85 years, and national dealers like Brownells, Lee Valley, MSC and Midway stock its tools. The product page for the original eight-piece gun-care set says “100% Made in the USA”. The about page says the tools are hand crafted by the family from American materials, and the hardwood handles are turned in Maine. A 2013 newspaper interview with Dan Morrison confirms the founding story. It also says he was still running the same equipment he started on at 13.
The limit is coverage. Of the product pages read, only the gun-care set carries its own origin line; the punch sets, hammers and bit sets rely on the company-wide claim on the about page.
