Charles and Eleanor Garrett started Garrett Metal Detectors in their Garland, Texas garage in 1964. The company still works from Garland, at 1881 West State Street. It makes hobby detectors (the ACE, AT and Vortex lines), gold-prospecting machines, pinpointers, and the walk-through and hand-held security detectors used at airports, schools and the Olympic Games.

Garrett’s careers page says all of its metal detectors are made in the USA “right here in Texas” by a staff of more than 300. The ACE product pages repeat the claim. The Garland Chamber of Commerce lists the company as a manufacturer at that address.

The claim is about detectors, and this record is limited to them. Garrett also sells headphones, bags, digging tools and branded gear. The product pages checked for those give no country of origin, so they are not covered here. The site doesn’t say where the circuit boards and electronic components come from, so the detectors sit at the second mark: made in Garland, with some parts of unstated origin. Garrett sells direct from its own site and through dealers.
