Fox River has made socks in the United States since 1900, and says so on its own Made in USA page — along with something most brands leave out: the yarn is a mix of domestic and imported.

That single clause is the difference between the first mark and the second. It is also to Fox River’s credit that they publish it. Plenty of sock brands knit from imported yarn and simply say “Made in USA” without qualification; this one tells you, which makes the record easier to trust even though it lowers the mark.

The knitting is no longer in Iowa. Nester Hosiery bought most of Fox River Mills’ assets in July 2025 and moved the machinery to its own plant in Mount Airy, North Carolina; the Osage mill filed an Iowa closure notice covering 105 jobs and shut in October 2025, leaving behind a product-development and customer-service office rather than a factory. The brand’s own page has followed, and now speaks of “our North Carolina headquarters”.
