East Fork started in 2009 when potter Alex Matisse fired a wood kiln on a former tobacco farm in Madison County, North Carolina. It is now a pottery manufacturer in Asheville, making stoneware mugs, plates, bowls and serving pieces in its own factory. The company says the clay and raw materials come from the American Southeast.
Regional press has covered the move from the farm kiln to the Biltmore Village factory and reported that the pots are shaped, glazed and fired there, which matches the brand’s claim. The top mark covers East Fork’s own pottery only. The website also sells a large range of other makers’ kitchen and home goods, many of them imported from Japan, Mexico, England, India and elsewhere. Those are not East Fork products and this record does not cover them.
