Aliya Wanek is an Oakland womenswear label started in 2016. The designer sews some garments herself and has the rest produced and dyed by two small Bay Area factories and local contractors. Product listings name Oakland and a family-owned Bay Area factory for the sweats, dresses and tops, and Los Angeles for some dyed pieces. Oakland Magazine’s profile of the label describes the same local setup.
It is a split line. Most of the knitwear and the rib-knit pieces are listed as made in Peru — two knit styles say knitted in Los Angeles — and the cotton-wool socks as made in Japan, all under the Aliya Wanek name. So the brand’s mark here is the floor, and the Bay Area cut-and-sew pieces are carried below with their own marks and their own quoted listings.
Those pieces sit at the second mark rather than the first because no product says where its fabric was milled. The reliable signal is the line on the listing itself: “Produced in a family-owned factory in the Bay Area” or “Cut & sewn in Oakland, CA” on one side, “Made in Peru” on the other.
